Our Coaches: Wayne Parker-Blackburn and Suraksha Jhalani.
For nearly a decade, Wayne Parker-Blackburn has helped our young people develop their public speaking and leadership skills. In 2019, Toastmasters International recognized Wayne as a Distinguished Toastmaster, in part because of the Youth Leadership program he facilitated alongside Suraksha Jhalani in 2015 at HSNEF. Since then, Mr. Wayne and Suraksha Auntie (as the young folks call them) have led public speaking workshops for several summers.
When they aren't working with our youngsters, Wayne works in Enterprise Marketing for Florida Blue, and Suraksha Jhalani works at Dark Matter.
This year's program will give participants the opportunity to practice both prepared speaking and impromptu speaking. Over three weekly sessions, we'll discuss techniques for preparing and presenting a speech, as well as strategies for effective impromptu speaking and the value of feedback. Standing in front of an audience and speaking can be daunting for some, but we strive to make the experience engaging and enjoyable for everyone.
After the three weekly education sessions, we will have an end of program celebration so the participants can demonstrate what they have learned.
