Heavy nonstop rains continue to knock Chennai down and life is almost standstill for many out there. Many of us are unable to reach our beloved family members and friends in Chennai. Power is out in most parts of the city and network is very low. Phone lines are knocked down too. Rescue troops including Indian Army, Navy, local Police force, Volunteers are all working to rescue people and bring them to the shelters. Jacksonville Tamil Mandram is in touch with a few volunteer services in Chennai and at this point they need huge supplies of food, medicines, blankets, clothes and shelter. We are raising funds to support this effort. We are in touch with few NGOs who are actively involved in the rescue activities. We are also trying to reach out to volunteers and NGOs supporting other areas like Pudhucherry, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and surrounding areas of Chennai.
