The first steering committee started its work in late 1989 and was comprised of:
- President: Sudhir Agarwal
- Secretary: V. Ramamurthy
- Treasurer: Vinod Deshmukh
- Joint Treasurer: Jitu Patel
Members:
Anil Arora, Vasant Bhide, Badri Mehrotra, Radhe Mittal, Rajni Patel, Ramu Patel, Suresh Patel, Jaya Padmanabhan, Sudhir Prabhu, A.N. Reddy, Sanmukh Sakaria, Shailendu Shah.
In September 1991, Ramu Patel was nominated Vice President, and in January 1992, Sanmukh Sakaria assumed the responsibilities of Treasurer, followed by Balwant Patel in 1995. V. Ramamurthy served as President of the Committee from 1992 through 1996.
Over the years, the steering committee functioned more as an open committee of volunteers who wished to help. Individual volunteers served to a variable extent and duration.
